Karen is 41 and lives in Edlington, Doncaster with her daughter Emma. She is divorced and works on a Post Office counter. She throws a 24grm dart. She plays in super league and is not only a Yorkshire ‘A’ team she is also an England international. Karen also does the competition circuit. Karen first started playing at the age of 17 in the local Women’s Institute league which her mum was involved with. In that league the players threw from 6ft, but Karen was made to throw from 7ft 9 ¼. She actually made her county debut at the age of 18 for Nottinghamshire, two years later she moved to Yorkshire at the age of 20. She has also had one season at London. Her high points in darts have been when she won the World Masters and being selected to play for England with the exception of having to wear those red trousers. When I asked for her low points she said ‘I don’t really have any low points in darts ‘cos darts has been crutch which has got me through my low points in life. When ever things have been bad for me, I have turned to darts.’ Her ambition in darts is to do a full circuit just enjoying darts with no problems or undue pressures. For her personnel comments she said “ Darts has been the most important factor in my life with the exception of Emma. I intend to try and outlast Lil Bone from Nottinghamshire who was still playing county at 70 so I have 28 years still to go. The person who had the biggest influence on Karen’s darts was her father ” My comments on Karen are that I have had the pleasure of travelling to many comps with her and she is one of the most natural players I have ever seen, she rarely picks up her darts from one match to the next and still manages to throw darts of a top class standard. Watch out girls ‘cos if Karen ever decided to start practicing regularly she would be unstoppable. Come on Karen start practicing and show us what you can really do!
