Bulgaria

Very little is known about the marking of items made of precious metals in Bulgaria in the past. This is probably the result of the Turkish occupation which lasted from 1393 to 1878 (and in the south of the country until 1881). Hallmarking was probably carried out according to the Turkish system.

1910	The law of 1 March, 1907, came into force. Items were marked with an official stamp of fineness and the maker's mark. Permitted fineness standards were 950, 900, 850, 750 and 500/1000.
