| From 1 September, 1916, the hallmarking system established by the law
of 8 August, 1906, carne into force. Items produced in Egypt were stamped
with three marks:
1. fineness and assay office (Cairo 800/1000). 2. Government mark 3. Date letter. These three marks were stamped on all the main parts of a product. Small items were only marked with a stamp of quality. The law of 1906 and the marks used were valid until 1946. |
