1495  Adoption of English regulations of 1423 
1498  A goldsmiths guild existed in Dublin. 
1557  The manufacture of precious metals was liberalized in Dublin. 
1605  The test of purity was renewed in Dublin because liberalization had been abused. 
1637  Charles I approved the statutes of the goldsmiths' guild in Dublin, valid for the whole of Ireland. It was decreed that the purity of silver must not be lower than the English standard. 
1638  Introduction of date letters. 
1729  Introduction of a "duty'' tax from 25 March. 1730. Payment of the tax was confirmed on the object by stamping with the ''Hibernia'' marks. 
1807  Ireland adopted the English hallmarking system, following the Act of Union with England in 1800. 
1923  New marks were introduced from 4 April, 1923, after the restoration of independence. Henceforth, objects were marked as follows: 
1.  maker's mark
2.  town mark
3.  standard mark of purity
4.  date letter.
