The information and graphics on this site are taken from SilverMine.  Åntidata is pleased to offer the original SilverMine©  program  to our visitors. SilverMine is a standalone hypertext book (©Åntidata 1996/7/8/9/2000) Standalone means that the program is completely self-contained with it's own integral browser. The program is extremely easy to set up and use as a left mouse click takes you "through" a hypertext link and a single right mouse click brings you back. Once you have mastered this, hypertext navigation becomes very easy, even in a document as large as SilverMine as there are on-screen buttons to take you to anywhere you wish to go.SilverMine was started in 1995 as an aid in the identification and study of the marks on silver. In the intervening time, the project has grown to over 2500 pages with 8000 hypertext links and 650 separate graphics depicting thousands of individual marks. SilverMine also contains many biographical notes for the more important makers, a glossary of terms connected with the silver trade, brief details of over 500 American makers marks,a bibliography, a full text search system, a notepad, print options , on-line help and user defined colours. The document covers the Assay Offices of

Plus brief details of the Bristol, Barnstaple, Bridgewater, Plymouth, Poole and Taunton Assay Offices.
All the main Assay towns are covered in detail with historical data, detailed text and graphics lists of date letter sequences and makers marks. Where the graphical representation of a makers mark is not available, there is a detailed description.

The Date Letter Finder
This was the original "core" of Silvermine. The user is presented with either an uppercase or lowercase alphabet in each of the Assay towns. Click on the date letter of your silver item and SilverMine returns the dates relevant to that letter. This makes the dating of quantities of silver (such as "job lots" from auction) very quick for the collector or dealer.

The program is is in a self extracting "zip" file. Download this file (silvermine.exe file size  =  1.8Mb) to a directory or folder of your choice (C:\Silver..?) and run it. It will then decompress itself to two files: HALLMARK.EXE and GRAPHICS.EXE. Click on these in turn to run them and they will extract themselves to around 6MB. You may then delete (or archive) silvermine.exe, hallmark.exe and graphics.exe to make more room on your hard drive To run the program run the file: silver.exe

Registration Marks 1842 - 1883

A printed or impresssed diamond shaped mark is often seen on manufactured goods made between 1842 and 1883. This mark indicated that, to prevent piracy, a particular design had been registered at the London Patent Office. This DOS utility contains the year and month keys for both types of registration marks.

Click the download button and save the file to a folder of your choice. Run: patent.exe from this folder. This is a self extracting .zip file which will unpack to give three files; regmark.exe, design.pcx and design2.pcx. To run the program run:regmark.exe. This program can be run from a floppy drive if you wish. File size=148Kb
