| A purity of 900/1000 was introduced in 1844; previously a purity of 800/1000 was used. An assay was not obligatory, and in any case it was not always precise. From 1923 onwards new marks were introduced, the permitted standards of purity being 900 and 800/1000. The marks changed in 1928,1938,1942 while maintaining the same purity standards as of 1923. |
