My great grandfather William James Wassell, my grandmother Eliza Ann Wassell and her sister Harriet Ada Wassell

From the 1300's my Wassell Family came from the Droxford area of Hampshire, although I cannot find a specific link for my direct ancestor, as the early Parish Register is missing.  However, from the Manor Court Rolls I have traced the Wassell families in this Parish from the 1300's up to and past when the first surviving Parish Register starts.  Unfortunately my ancestor did not inherit the family copyhold, hence no provable connection, only the fact that he came from the same village.

In the 1800's my Wassell family moved to Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire where my 2 x great grandfather George Wassell was born.  He emigrated to Cork in Ireland after he was pensioned out of the Army in 1849.  His son, my great grandfather William James Wassell, returned to England and settled in Lambeth, South London with his half first cousin Elizabeth Winter.  Elizabeth's mother being George's half sister Harriet Wassell.  After having 7 children together (including my grandmother Eliza Ann Wassell and her sister Harriet Ada Wassell - see photos above), William James left Elizabeth, married Rachel Kate Eliza Wyatt and had a further 7 children.

My grandmother never knew that her father had another family.  This only came to light while researching this family history.  I have since been in contact with several descendants of William James' second family, they also had no knowledge of  his first family.
