We have kept hens since 1992 when we started with a group of ten ex-battery layers. Giving battery hens a new free range life is very rewarding and they can lay a lot of eggs for many years. The first pure bred hens we had were four Marans and this remains a favourite breed for its friendly nature and beautiful dark brown eggs. |

We have two hen houses next to each other with a covered area between. This provides shelter from the rain in the winter and shade from the sun in the summer. The hens prefer to roost in the smaller of the two houses, presumably because it is cosier when they are all packed inside. |
