Welcome to our Web site
We would like to hear from former pupils or members of staff of the Abbey School, in Ashurst Wood, near East Grinstead, in Sussex, United Kingdom. We do hope that, in time, this page will be a place full of interesting experiences and a record of what the Abbey School has done for its pupils and its Staff.
This site currently contains the material relevant to the Abbey School that was previously available on the Clare House Association site.
The Abbey School crest above was produced by Jan Pettersen from a scan of the badge on an Abbey School calendar.
In its more recent history, Clare House Preparatory School was run by the Abbey and Clare House Company. This company was based in East Grinstead, Sussex, in the United Kingdom from where it also ran the Abbey School. Originally in Park Road, Beckenham, the Abbey School moved to Ashurst Wood, near East Grinstead shortly after the start of the Second World War. The fate of the two schools was finally determined by the winding-up of the Abbey and Clare House Company in 1969.
If you have any information about the Abbey School that you would like to see added to this site, please contact our Webmaster with the details.
Memories of the Abbey School - 1943 to 1949
Mike Miller (Abbey School 1943 - 1949) has kindly written about his memories of the Abbey School. We hope his account will trigger some memories for former pupils and staff and that you will get in touch with Mike through our Webmaster.
