Syllabus
(A) Introduction:
We will explain
to you the aims of the approved training course. You will be told about,
correct clothing & equipment. We will check your eyesight.
(B) Practical on
site training:
You will be familiarised with a motorcycle's controls, how it works and
shown how to carry out basic machine checks. You will put a bike on and
off the main stand (if fitted) and wheel the machine left and right, with
proper balance. You will learn how to stop the bike under control using
the front brake and then how to start and stop the engine satisfactorily.
(C) Practical
on site riding:
You will practice riding in a straight line slowly and under control.
You will be shown how to stop under control using both brakes, normally
and as if in an emergency. You will be taught how to ride a figure of
eight under control, do the "u" turn manoeuvre and learn how to change
gear. We will teach you how to observe to the rear correctly and do simulated
right/left turns using o.s.m.p.s.l.
(D) Practical on
road training:
You will be told the following: - The need to know the Highway Code. To
ride defensively and to anticipate others. When to observe to the rear.
The correct, on road riding position. The safe distance to leave when
following traffic. How weather changes can affect riding. How a roads
surface can affect bike handling. To always be conspicuous to other road
users. What the law demands when riding on road. Changing one's speed
to suit road and traffic conditions. The consequences of aggression when
riding. The importance of hazard perception. The dangers of drugs and
alcohol.
(E) Minimum two
hours on road riding, includes:
Roundabouts.
Junctions.
Pedestrian crossings.
Traffic lights.
Gradients.
Bends.
Obstructions.
On road U-turn & emergency stop as in (C).
