DAY BOAT HIRE
by BONE IDLE BOATS
PRIORY MARINA
BARKERS LANE
BEDFORD
TAKE A BREAK - GET AWAY - RELAX & ENJOY
...a few hours on the picturesque River Ouse on one of our 16ft Dolphin Day Boats where you will glide through calm quiet waters, take in the fresh air, soak up the sunshine (hopefully), and watch the ever changing scenery slip by.
A Two Hour
journey will take you at your leisure under Longholme Bridge, through the Town Lock into Bedford Town Centre. Unfortunately no mooring is allowed on the town side of the lock, and we ask you to give priority to any rowers that may be using the river here, Nonetheless there is still a certain feeling of affluence cruising in town waters. In the opposite direction from the Marina you will pass the pretty Barns Hotel before entering Cardington Lock, after which your magical journey continues.A Half Day
will allow your journey to continue from Cardington Lock through miles of river with its banks ablaze with wild flowers. Keep a watchful eye for colourful dragonflies, kingfishers, and of course the numerous resident ducks and swans, which we ask you not to disturb, and please steer with caution should they be in your path. You should reach just beyond Castle Mill Lock before turning about for your homeward journey.A Full Day
takes you on the same route onto Willington Lock. 30 minutes after this you will reach the ancient bridge at Great Barford. Just through the bridge you will be able to moor for lunch. If you haven’t packed a picnic you can enjoy the fayre of the Anchor Public House whilst observing and meeting fellow boaters. Your return journey from here will take you approximately three and a half hours depending on the favourability of the locks.
Our Dolphin day boats* have been designed to give maximum stability to carry up to six people (max.overall weight 450 kg). They have a small forward cabin and an optional full rear canopy, giving protection against the elements, whether it be blazing sunshine or one of our “showers”.
They are easy to manoeuvre, even for the most novice of boaters, but full handling instructions are displayed on board, together with a guide on how to operate the River’s lock system.
All necessary safety equipment is provided including life jackets, the wearing of which is advisable for children and non swimmers.
You will have the peace of mind of a mobile telephone system allowing you to contact base in the unlikely event of you experiencing any difficulties.
A map is also displayed for you to follow your route.
