In that most English of counties,
Oxfordshire, you will find the famous Rollright Stones,
approximately 2½ miles (4km) North of Chipping Norton. Quite
magnificent to behold and on a sunny Summers day the golden
sunlight enhances the colour of the stones. The site comprises a
circle of approximately seventy stones, known as The
Kings Men, while just to the East stands a monolith,
the King Stone, which, unfortunately I do not yet
have a picture of.
Further still to the East are the remains of what some think to be a long barrow. This is known as the Whispering Knights, due to there being four upright stones, forming a chamber, with a fifth stone leaning at an angle.
As with most stone circles, Rollright is steeped in legend. Some say that the site is associated with the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
The picture to the left is that of one of the stones from the main circle, or The Kings Men.
