THE RED LION INN

The Red Lion Inn

(See Image Map, ‘G’). This ancient inn is allegedly haunted by a ghost named “Florrie”. She was murdered and thrown down the well which is now inside the inn. Many strange things happen in the Red Lion and on several occasions a physical manifestation of a ghost as been reported. The well, pictured below, has been altered in appearance on at least one occasion. Recently it was finished with a wooden top and inlaid with brass and glass to enable it to serve a dual function as both a curiosity and a drinks table, with seating around its periphery. A bigger picture may be viewed by clicking on the well.

The Well inside the pubThe Red Lion has the distinction of being the only inn in the world which is located inside a stone circle (or circles). The interior is typical of an old English ‘pub’ (short for public house) with an open fire creating an atmosphere in which one can quite easily relax. At the rear of the building there is a restaurant. Upstairs the accommodation is equally quaint and is complete with squeaky floorboards.
