Seller Protection

We will re-imburse you for an amount for Claims, Chargebacks, or Reversals made against you based on the following reasons:

  • A Chargeback or Reversal was issued against you for the reason of an "Unauthorised Payment"; or

  • A Chargeback or Claim was issued against you for the reason of "Item Not Received".

PayPal seller protection is available for PayPal payment transactions received from:

  • buyers who send a PayPal payment for a item purchased via eBay worldwide and everywhere PayPal is accepted; and

  • buyers who send a PayPal payment for an item purchased outside of eBay from the UK, US or Canada.

  • PayPal seller protection does not apply to Claims, Chargebacks and/or Reversals for Significantly Not as Described (SNAD) nor for items that you deliver in person.

What are the eligibility requirements for PayPal seller protection?

You must meet all of these requirements to be covered:

  • The item purchased must be a physical, tangible good that can be posted.

  • The transaction must be marked eligible or partially eligible for seller protection on your Account "Transaction Details" page. The new format since mid Novemeber shows items are now marked ok to post or ineligible

  • If it is marked eligible, protection for both Unauthorised Payments and Item Not Received will apply. If it is marked partially eligible, protection for only Item Not Received will apply.

  • Items sold on eBay will be marked eligible even if the shipping address is marked unconfirmed. Generally, items sold on websites other than eBay will be marked eligible if the shipping address is marked confirmed and partially eligible (that is, eligible for Item Not Received only) if the shipping address is marked unconfirmed.

  • Post the item to the shipping address on the "Transaction Details" page.

  • You may access the "Transactions Details" page by logging into your PayPal Account, selecting "History" and then selecting "Details" for the transaction.

  • Follow the postage requirements described below.

  • You must accept a single payment from one PayPal Account for the purchase.

  • You must not charge a surcharge for accepting PayPal.

  • Respond to PayPal’s requests for documentation and other information in a timely manner.

  • Your primary residence, as listed in your PayPal Account, must be in the United Kingdom.

  • Payment to the email address on the paypal section of the sell your item page is no longer a requirement but buyer should be sent a replacement invoice using the request money tab and the request should be filled out as shown here. Copy and paste the link in to your browser

Seller Protection and Presale Policy

This particularly applies to ticket sales and similar where tickets

Pre-sale items are advertised for sale before the seller has the items. Often, these items are sold before they are available to the general public. Or, the seller uses the funds from the sale to purchase the item that has already been sold.

PayPal permits pre-sales on a limited basis, only if the seller guarantees delivery within 20 days from the date of purchase and clearly identifies the item as a pre-sale. PayPal may apply additional conditions, such as proof of the seller's ability to successfully deliver the product: supplier information, purchase invoices, postal information or proof of delivery.

Sellers MUST deliver within 20 days of payment, and should list as pre-sale for items they dont actually have to comply, so sellers would be advised to wait until they have the tickests in hand or list nearer the time the tickets will be issued.

Buyer Protection

You must meet all of these requirements to be eligible for a payment under PayPal Buyer Protection:

  • Use PayPal to purchase an eligible item on eBay.

  • Pay the full amount of the eligible item in one payment. Items purchased with multiple payments – like a deposit followed by a final payment – are not eligible.

  • Send the payment to the seller through:

  • The eBay "Pay Now" button or the eBay invoice, or

  • The "Send Money" button of your PayPal account by selecting "eBay Item" and entering your eBay User ID and the eBay item number. It is no longer possible to send to alternative email address if you do this correctly by entering the item number . It is very important not to choose the " pay anyone " button to pay for "goods or services" as you lose your ebay buyer protection

  • The seller can use the paypal request money tab but the item number and seller id must appear on the request

  • Open a Dispute within 45 days of the date you sent the payment and follow the online dispute resolution process described below under "Dispute Resolution".

  • Keep your PayPal account in good standing.

  • Keep your PayPal account in good standing.

There is no buyer protection or cars

All items must be tangible and although ebooks are a prohibited item there are still some listed that have got through the net and you should not buy them as you will not be covered by buyer protection

Payment By a Third Party

Payment can be made by a third party so long as its associated with the listing it will have buyer protection

The only way to do this would be for the seller to send a paypal invoice to the friends email address

It must be an invoice for an ebay item and contain ebay number and seller id  in the appropriate boxes not just a money  request for  buyer protection to apply

The person paying must check these details are on the invoice before they pay so they know they are covered by buyer protection

Payment should not be made using the send money pay anyone tab in paypal

PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy

What is the PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy?

The PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy is a process to help you resolve a problem with a seller through the PayPal Resolution Centre for purchases that are not eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection. It is similar to PayPal Buyer Protection in that it enables buyers to file a Dispute for an Item Not Received (INR) or for an item Significantly Not as Described (SNAD). However, recovery of any amounts is not guaranteed and is limited to the amounts that PayPal can recover from the seller’s Account, even if it finds in your favour.

Paypal will not make the final decision on snad which means that unless the seller voluntarily refunds your money, you will not recover any amounts for a SNAD Claim or a Claim for an Ineligible Item filed under the Buyer Complaint Policy.

What is Significantly Not as Described (SNAD)?

  • An item is Significantly Not as Described if it is materially different from what the seller described in the item listing. Here are some non exhaustive examples:

    • You received a completely different item. For instance, you purchased a book and received a DVD or an empty box.

    • The condition of the item was misrepresented. For instance, the listing said “new” and the item was used.

    • The item was advertised as authentic but is not authentic.

    • The item is missing major parts or features that were not disclosed in the listing.

    • You purchased 3 items from a seller but received only 2.

  • An item is not Significantly Not as Described (SNAD) if it is materially similar to the seller’s description. Here are some non exhaustive examples:

    • The defect in the item was correctly described by the seller.

    • The item was correctly described but you didn't want it after you received it.

    • The item was correctly described but did not meet your expectations.

    • The item has minor scratches and was listed as used condition.

What is the process for the Buyer Compliant Policy

Similar to PayPal Buyer Protection, you must file a Dispute in the PayPal Resolution Centre within 45 days of the date you sent the payment. Once you have done so, you should attempt to resolve the Dispute directly with the seller.
