Technical lead during the upgrade of a 10,000 seat mail system, from initial concept to final support, in a busy banking head office environment. Maintained vision despite pressures from all sides. Delivered significant system improvements to specification and on target.
Further project management experience gained upgrading a medium sized banking call centre. Overcame challenges of coordinating team and business to minimise disruption and control costs.
A two year assignment in Milan as lead designer and programmer in a team developing a Unix-based PC file and print server for Olivetti. This was a key factor in their expansion from PC to server vendor, and continued to provide a successful platform for driving the sales of Olivetti servers for a number of years.

Part of a team deploying a large-scale Operations Support System based on Architel / Nortel software and also supporting a major mobile voice network upgrade in Portugal. Responsible for the design and development of Solaris scripts for automating system start-up, monitoring, backup, and bulk testing. Extended the order processing system using Java.
Deployment and troubleshooting of RiverSoft's OpenRiver network management platform. Experience included software installation and system administration on the Solaris operating system, close liaison with Network Managers, and customisation using the Perl programming language and Unix shell scripts.
Design of a Web Content Aggregation service integrating with leading content providers. This involved reviewing subscribe / publish packages, content management systems, and the use of XML.
Developed a Statement Of Requirements for a leading high street retailer to use when selecting its virtual Internet Service Provider (vISP). This involved research into content provision, e-commerce, push technology, unified messaging, and voice integration.

Design and development of an NT service to retrieve telephony call statistics via an X.25 WAN and delivery of reports via a FAX server. This project made use of Visual Studio, C++, COM, MS Message Queue Server, and SourceSafe.
Project Management and user support for the upgrade of a busy banking call centre and surrounding branch network. This included the migration of workstations, servers, network infrastructure and telephone exchange to a new IP network.
Team leadership, as well as design, during the migration of a 10,000 seat, 88 post office, MS-Mail system to 32 MS Exchange servers. Close liaison with IP network support team during design and implementation. Third line support for post-migration user issues.
Integrating NT 4.0 workstation and touch screen Point of Sale systems to create a set of standard configurations, appropriate to different store formats, for a rollout to 120 sites. Developed an automated installation / upgrade solution for each of these configurations, then provided telephone support to engineers during the deployment.
Design and development of C programs to provide Unix server and NT Proxy components that allowed HTML browser access over both routed IP and raw X.25 networks.
Planned and installed Olivetti's London demonstration facility. This involved an extensive LAN Manager network, 10BaseT CAT 5 wiring, IBM 3270 and ICL 7561 terminal access, X.400 mail and SNMP network management.
Provided day-to-day administration and support of department LAN (about 30 PCs with four file / print / OIS / communications servers). This involved everything from procuring and installing hardware and software to maintaining the office structured wiring system.
Product management and marketing of communications products including the production of information bulletins and presentations for the sales divisions. Liaison with and support for software houses during the addition of UK specific packages to the product portfolio. Provided both pre- and post-sales consultancy in the field of OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) communications, and Government OSI Profiles, from initial analysis of the Operational Requirements through to customer support.
