Milngavie:  Milngavie is particularly well-known for the start of the West Highland Way www.west-highland-way.co.uk  This route is established as one of Scotland’s best walks.  Laurel Bank is less than 10minutes walk away from the official starting point.  Also, many picturesque local walks can be taken from the house without the need for any transport.

Eating places: 
There are a number of local pubs and restaurants within a short walk.

Glasgow: Glasgow is only 7 miles from Milngavie and is one of the UK’s most visited cities with many cultural attractions and the largest retail sector outside London.  Frequent train and bus services operate and the journey is about 30minutes.   The bohemian West End of Glasgow is only about 3 miles away and well worth a visit.  www.glasgowwestend.co.uk

 

Aberfoyle, Loch Lomond and Trossachs:  Within about 20 miles lies the beautiful Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park with Loch Ard, Loch Chon, Loch Arklet and Loch Lomond all lying to the west, Loch Katrine, Loch Achray and Loch Venacher to the North and Scotland’s only “lake”, the Lake of Mentieth to the east.   On the road you pass our local Glengoyne Distillery which offers guided tours and is highly recommended.

Travel: The train station into Glasgow city centre is only 5 minutes walk with 2 – 4 trains per hour  7days a week. The journey time is approx. 23mins. Buses to Glasgow and Stirling can be had from stops close by the house and run every 30 - 60 minutes and 7days a week.

Airports: Glasgow International Airport is within 20 minutes by taxi and Prestwick International Airport has a direct rail link to Glasgow Central (The journey time is approx. 60mins ).

Local businesses and Universities: These include University of Glasgow Vet School and Science Parks.

Sport and Recreation:  Many 18 hole golf courses within easy reach, in particular, the Esporta club only 5 minutes walk away, together with several other local clubs and also the world famous Loch Lomond courses.

Mugdock Country Park which includes garden centre and quality food hall, is only 10 minutes by car and is ideal for all the family with interesting, well marked-out forest walks.

Swimming pools at the local Allander Centre and the Esporta Health, Racquets and Golf Club.

Horse riding and fishing are only a short drive or bus run away.
