Interest
Northumberland is well known for its varied and beautiful landscape and within an hour’s drive from Bamburgh there are opportunities to satisfy all tastes:
Historical
Nearby is the Holy Island of Lindisfarne with its Priory and Castle. A little further to the north is Berwick-upon-Tweed with its battlement walls. To the south are the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle, the home of the Duke of Northumberland. Close by are the remains of Warkworth Castle and its Hermitage.
Stately Homes and Gardens
At Alnwick Castle new gardens are being developed whilst the well established gardens at Howick should not be missed. Inland towards Rothbury is impressive Cragside House and Gardens, the home of Lord Amstrong.
Sports
Golfing enthusiasts have, arguably, the most scenic golf course in Northumberland at Bamburgh. Close by are the seaside courses of Seahouses and Dunstanburgh Castle and a parkland course in Alnwick. To the north is the championship standard course of Goswick.
National Parks
For the more adventurous there are lovely walks in the College and IngramValleys in the Cheviots. For ornithologists, offshore there are the Farne Islands.
Seaside
Northumberland has some of the best beaches in the country. For those wishing a slower pace there are the long sandy beaches at Bamburgh Castle, Anstead beach outside Seahouses as well as Newton-by-the-Sea and Embleton
