The Abbeyfield movement was founded in Bermondsey in 1956 and presently provide supported sheltered housing in over 750 houses throughout the United Kingdom.
“Members of the Abbeyfield Society believe that older people have an important role to play amongst their families, friends and community and that many older people suffer from loneliness and and insecurity. The Society believes also that within the community the individual has an essential part to play in helping older people in special need.’
