Guests join congregation in songs of praise.
Posted on Oct 12, 2004

The Church is alive and kicking in Tweedbank ... 10
years after its doors first opened for worship.
For Sunday was a day of ecumenical celebration in Tweedbank
as the local church marked a significant date in its
relatively short history.
Tweedbank Community Church celebrated its 10th anniversary
with a special service and a Songs of Praise with people from
across the Borders and beyond taking part.
And they also had a special cake with candles just to make
Sunday that extra special.
It was an equally special day for the minister of the
Tweedbank Community Church, the Rev Mary Taylor, who was
joined for the service by the Rev John Arthur, Moderator of
the Scottish Synod, United Reformed Church.
The Songs of Praise were built around the history of the
Church, Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, Ascension, Advent,
culminating in the word Celebration.
Also joining in was the Rev John Humphreys, Development
Officer with the Scottish Synod along with members of the
United Reformed Churches in Galashiels and Selkirk.
One of the other distinguished visitors was the Rev John
Wylie, secretary for Christian Aid in Scotland, and who is
also involved in the Pastoral Committee for the Synod in the
East of Scotland.
They were joined by members of the Galashiels Fellowship of
Churches in an ecumenical celebration.
"It was a very joyous celebration," said Mary. "It was good
to see so many people there."
"I had a dream of all the people involved and that has
started to come true in Tweedbank," she added.
And after refreshments, the Word was that Tweedbank was
building on Sure Foundations for the future ... with the
Church’s Welcome Pack coming out in time for Christmas.
