History of P.L.S.G.

If you were abused as a child; YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME!

A brief history from the founding Chairman, Mrs Janie P. Ogilvie.

P.L.S.G. is a charitable trust founded on 26th March 1996.

A ladies' survivors group, known as Preston Survivors Group, had been in existence in various forms since 1998. This was a facilitator-led group whose original conception was a result of co-operation between NCH Careline, NSPCC and Preston Well Women Centre. However from the outset it was an autonomous group with help re-premises, finance and facilitators from the founding organisations.

I , personally, have been involved in co-facilitating the group since 1989. I became sole facilitator in early 1995.

I realised the vast needs in this area of work and that as far as we or the Charity Commissioners were aware we were the only facilitator-led service in Lancashire. I also wanted to see the work expand and to set up a group for male survivors. So I gathered together other professionals with an interest in the work and P.L.S.G. was formed as a charitable trust.

We attempted to start a male group. This work did not flourish due to lack of response and clients being referred for group therapy before they were ready for it. Although still a long term aspiration, we do not have the necessary resources to pursue this project at the moment.

We have had success in consolidating the work of the ladies’ group and
holding regular training days for professionals and volunteers who come in contact with survivors through their work.
