Policy and Guidelines
Preston & Lancashire Survivors Groups (P.L.S.G.) is a charitable trust formed on 26th March 1996. Its aims are to provide, within Lancashire, facilitator-led structured support/therapy groups for adult survivors of childhood/adolescent sexual abuse.
Each group is characterised by an accepting, sensitive,
structured way of working. We recognise the need for survivors to be given space
and time to deal with problems and issues arising from their abuse and while
members are encouraged to share their feelings no-one is put under any pressure.
It is important to stress that membership of the groups is open ended for as
long as the survivor and the group facilitator feel there are still issues to be
worked through.
We have 4 sessions per. year. Typically each session lasts 6 weeks. However new
members can only join at the start of session 1 or session 3. There is no
support available from P.L.S.G
outwith these groups.
Prospective new members can be referred by their GP, counsellor, any other
agency or
self-referred. This is done in writing to the Chairman of P.L.S.G. at the above
address. If the application is accepted the client’s name will be put on a
waiting list. When a place is available they will be invited along to a
pre-group organised by the group-facilitator. A pre-group is a
meeting of the group facilitator and one other trustee with any potential new
clients.
Final decision on entrance to a group lies with the trustees.
The group facilitator of each group keeps records on standard P.L.S.G. forms of
members’
details, brief meeting reports and members’ agreements. These files are kept
safely by the group facilitator. The only people dealing directly with members
and hence knowing members’ details are the trustees. However a client’s GP is
informed of their membership by simply being informed when they join the group
and when they leave.
No information about members or shared in the group will be disclosed to anyone
except in exceptional circumstances such as the safety of a child or vulnerable adult.
Then we would always try to fully discuss this with the client concerned and a
minimum of 2 trustees would make any final decision.
All P.L.S.G. groups will work in a similar way with common policies, approach
and reporting.
