General Information

  1. You may be aware of the Genuki pages which aim to give a complete coverage of the UK and Ireland, and they are worth a visit if you have the perseverance to work through all the links. Finding online references is extremely tedious, as most references are to snail-mail addresses.

You could try accessing the new style Contents Page which has links to the individual Counties.

  2. The Joiner Marriage Index a Marriage Database for County Durham, and the North Riding of Yorkshire.

  3. Deeds - a catalogue of Medieval and Early Modern Deeds Arranged by County.

  4. Marriages from the Sherburn Hospital Registers (1695-1837)

  5. Executions at Durham, 1732-1909.

  6. Ron Taylor's census database for 1851 - it contains some 100,000 records and concentrates on special classes. This is the index, and individual pages are:

  7. St. Catherine's Transcriptions - index of available data for marriages in 1849 and 1856. Note that there is a huge amount of data here BUT the period covered is short, so you may be disappointed.

  8. Convicts transported from Ireland to Australia.

  9. Executions in England from 1606

  10. Unwanted Certificates - check to see whether someone has a Birth, Marriage or Death certificate that might interest you.

  11. UK Look-Up Scheme - not online records, but folk who are willing to check out references listed on these pages. Embryonic but looks like it will become a very good secondary resource.

  12. York Minster Database - not searchable online but contains 250,000 local records from 1200 to 1550. Mail me for details.
