A major UK PLC, with global operations, experienced multiple problems with one of its operating companies based in Continental Europe, which was limiting growth potential. These problems included poor quality, poor business performance, late delivery of projects and cost overruns. National cultural barriers amplified these problems. After consultation, a strategy was set, and the problems were solved, with dramatic results. As a consequence of improved supply chain management, transfer of some of the operations and the implementation of a strategic alliance with a major American Corporation, cost savings of 16% were achieved after eighteen months.
