St. Albans is truly a wonderful place to be a Town
Crier. It has over 2000 years of history to it's name the Celtic and Roman times right up
to the current day. I can do better than direct you to the official city website at www.stalbans.gov.uk which is packed full of
information about the city.
I do have my own favourite parts of the City and it's surrounding area though, which can I
heartily recommend you visit:-
The Cathedral or Abbey - a beautiful building in a wonderful setting, steeped in
history - have tea in the refectory!
The Clock Tower - a medieval tower with great views over the town. Just one problem if you
are my size - the stairs get very narrow near the top - I had to take my coat off to get
up!
The Market, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, has an amazing variety of stalls, full of
character, and many of the stallholders know me by now!
All the Roman remains - just let your imagination run riot and take you back 2000 years.
The Gardens of the Rose - the home of England's favourite flower - acres of colour and
tranquility
Redbournbury Watermill - a restored 18th Century mill in an idyllic location and with
great home-made teas.
Guided Walks - a fascinating way to find out more about the city - try the ghost walk!
. And finally, the pubs. As befitting the home of the Campaign for Real Ale, there
are some great pubs in the city, catering for the discerning drinker. Explore and enjoy!
