Alexander Balanescu

Alexander was brought up in Bucharest Romania, to parents Ion and Similica. He began lessons on the violin at the age of six, with Myriam (Dolly) Koritzer. Shortly after this he entered the number 1 music school. He continued along side schooling to take lessons with Dolly. During his time at the school he also studied from, Garabet Avakian, ans Stefan Gheorghiu. By the age of nine he began to perform to an international audience, his first performance was of .

The family (including his older brother Yossi) struggled to leave a then communist romania, and eventually gained a visa, to leave in 1969 for Isreal. During his time there he continued to play learning from but with army service soon approaching, his parents decided to send him to Great Britain. Here he lived with some family friends the O'connors, and had lessons from?? He denied the chance to go to Gulliard school in New York, at the age of (?) and instead accepted entrance into Trinity College, where he was later to teach also. The family eventually followed when Ion became professor at University in Neurophysiology.

Alex then left for New York to now enter Guilliard. Here he took lessons from Dorothy Delay.
