Alpine Garden Society shows regularly offer the chance to see alpine plants both common and rare in cultivation, grown to the ultimate standard. I usually attend ten shows each year and would enthusiastically recommend the "show scene" either for the potential exhibitor or simply "interested onlooker". If you live in the UK, you must make a point of attending your nearest show. If you are from overseas, see what delights AGS shows have in store, maybe you'll visit one day....

Record entries at East Cheshire AGS show (5th May 2001)yet again with in excess of 650 plants staged! A diverse range of exhibits also to suit all tastes, hopefully managed in this small selection. Clematis marmoraria seen here pipped a quite superb Soldanella hungarica to win the Farrer medal, click on the Clematis to see the Soldanella and a few more plants.....

Brian Russ seen here with quite a bit to smile about. Cassiope "George Taylor" had secured the Farrer medal at Malvern the previous week and Phyllodoce nipponica made it two in a row at Southport - 19th May 2001. Cool conditions and rain accompanied the annual high summer gathering of the show fraternity at Cheltenham AGS show, 14th July 2001. Disappointing turn outs in sections B and C with many classes devoid of entries.
