Alpine Garden Society shows regularly offer the chance to see alpine plants both common and rare in cultivation, grown to the ultimate standard. This is my fourth year of "cyber show reporting", be sure to check out the 2001 season AGS Show reports 2001 , 2002 attractions AGS Show reports 2002 and 2003 delights AGS Show reports 2003 if you are a new visitor and have a few hours to spare!!!
If you live in the UK, you must make a point of attending your nearest show (see the AGS site for details).

Southport AGS Show

I don't always manage to get to Southport show and this visit was my first to the new venue. Some things, such as the quality of the plants, don't change and the weather as always was superb. East Cheshire AGS Show


It's May and alpine shows at this time of year feature a diverse range of plants. Some genera such as Androsace continue to be well represented and best on the day was Androsace studiosorum 'Doksa' - click on this to see more......

Midland AGS Show

A high quality assembly of plants at the Midland show saw many superb exhibits fail to get amongst the prize stickers. Lewisias, together other genera made their presence felt and this certificate of merit worthy offering from Robert Rolfe was the best of the bunch - click to see more......

North Midland AGS Show


It's middle of the spring show season, the venue the middle of the country, the result anything but middle of the road. This was the biggest gathering of exhibits yet. Something for everyone here, even a Farrer medal orchid and lots of juno Iris including this certificate of merit worthy Iris willmottiana 'Morning Sky' clicking on which will take you there......

South West AGS Show

The Exeter based show was up to par with a wealth of quality exhibits, particularly so in the bulbous classes. I was caught by candid photographer Jim McGregor attempting to reload the car (plants always seem to occupy double the space after a show). Click on the plants to see more......

East Lancs AGS Show


Spring finally has sprung and the benches were creaking at Tottington! New Dionysias were holding centre stage in new/rare with rarely seen (so good)Androsaces catching the eye. A click on this particularly stunning Asphodelus acaulis will take you there ......

Blackpool AGS Show

Loughborough AGS Show


Loughborough show proved irresistable to seasonal change with the usual assembly of Dionysia, Primula allioni forms and early season bulbs. No shortage of contenders for the honours including the delectable Iris rosenbachiana - the rest are just a click away......





14th February 2004 - South Wales AGS show


The seasons are definitely advancing and what was once a period for 'display only', mid February is capable of producing a wonderful spectacle of early Spring alpine plants. Despite a smaller number of exhibitors, exhibits were well up on 2003 and of the usual impeccable standard......
