It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of another legendary
and popular Sierra Leonean musician MUSTAPHA SAHR FAYIA
at the age of 60.
He died on Tuesday, 16 November 1999 and was buried in the Military
Cemetery at Lumley, Freetown on Friday, 26 November.
With his lanky 6 ft plus frame, 'Big Fayia', as he was affectionately
known throughout the length and breadth of Sierra Leone, entertained his
compatriots for nearly thirty five years of his life, with music laced
with spontaneity and improvisation. He set to dance music many ethnic and
cultural rhymes, which made him a favourite of children everywhere in the
country.
He is survived by his wife Mary and several children, including Mahmoud,
Siah, Siah and Siah, Mustapha (Junior), Augusta, Mohammed, and Kumba who
lives in London.
We wish Big Fayiah's family and friends our sincere condolences and
pray that His soul will rest in perfect peace.
