ON SECOND thoughts, this site will NOT be carrying
a signing-in page ...for the time being at least.
Reading through the contributions of visitors to open-access
sites, notably Leonenet and Sierra Leone Government web, we have been appalled
by the nature of the personal attacks on each other and the filth and vitriol
of language used.
This site intends to focus on the critical issues that
affect the country, and not be a platform for issuing rancour and spite,
displaying Sierra Leoneans intolerance towards one another to the rest
of the world. Our aim is to complement not compete with other web sites
covering our country's affairs. We believe in and encourage criticism,
debate and airing alternative opinions; we expect people to disagree strongly
with each other. But that does not give a licence to descend into bigotry,
tribalism and intolerance on the scale evident in some of the contributions
posted to other sites.
In due course we will open our guest book for comments.
In the meantime, if you wish to make a serious and constructive point or
suggestion, including criticism of the editorial stance of this paper,
do so by all means using our .
We will do our best to respond to you and represent your views fairly and
honestly. But we do not want to uglify your screens with uncharitable
personal comments about one another, and this site will not be used as
a vehicle for pursuing personalised vendettas, point scoring and bigotry.
Sierra Leone is just a small nation and we who are its
citizens should be working together to create harmony not dissension and
disunity in our midst. We have a powerful medium - the Internet - through
which we can do so painlessly and beneficially. We should not abuse or
misuse it.
