Amala Trust

What and where?

The Amala Children's Home is in a very remote, rural area of Southern India. The Home provides residence and schooling for over 100 boys and girls aged 4 to 16 who come from the most deprived and destitute families in the area. The people belong to the lowest of the Indian castes and are known as 'Dalits'. Amala is about saving the lives of children by providing security and care, thus preventing them from drifting into cities where their only chance of survival is to beg, thieve or be taken into bonded labour or prostitution. Our children come from many religious groups including Hindu, Christian and Muslim. All are welcomed.
