Parkers of Australia

The Parkers were one of the pioneering families in Western Australia. Stephen Stanley Parker emigrated from Northbourne to Perth Australia in 1829 with his sister Susanna Wyborn Parker on the ship the 'Hoogley'. Along with another brother, William Mercer Parker they emigrated to the Swan River Colony (Western Australia). They settled in Guildford and then in 1835 took up land south-east of  York named after their home village 'Northbourne'.

Anne Susanna Wyborn Parker married John Sewell Jnr of Essex.
Stephen Stanley Parker married Elizabeth Sewell (sister of John Sewell Jnr).
William Mercer Parker married Sarah Sewell (sister of John Sewell and Elizabeth).

In 1842 Stephen Stanley Parker and his elder brother John Wyborn Parker left their father's property of 'Northbourne' to establish a property just south of York. The estate was named 'Cold Harbour' in honour of their grandfather, John Parker, who in 1795, had purchased 'Cold Harbour' farm that had been part of Northbourne Court in Kent. Later the name 'Cold Harbour' was adopted for a township situated just east of York.

There is a gravestone south of the church near the southern boundary wall and this John Parker is probably the older brother of emigré Stephen Stanley Parker and it would appear he stayed at Northbourne to take over the farm from John Parker senior.
