DEDICATION OF NEW ORGAN AT ST. AUGUSTINE'S CHURCH

The dedication of the new organ at the above church took place on Thursday last. There was a goodly number of the neighbouring clergy present. The Rev. Canon Bliss assisted at the first part of the service and Rev. Dr. Payne, of St. George's, Deal, preached a most excellent and appropriate sermon, taking his text from the 100th Psalm, verse 2, "serve the Lord with gladness," after which the following selection of music was played by Mr. Troman, Mus. Bac. Oxon., which gave great satisfaction to the large congregation present. Overture (occasional), Handel; Berceuse, Spinney; 'War March of the Priests,' Mendelssohn; 'O rest in the Lord,' Mendelssohn; 'Andante in G,' Batiste; 'Hallelujah,' Handel. The organ was built by Mr. F.H. Browne of the Kent Organ Works, Deal. The touch and tone of the instrument are all that could be desired. We congratulate the Northbourne people in having such an addition to their beautiful church.

Frederick Henry Browne (c.1849-1933) started his organ building business in Deal around 1880. He was also a music retailer and ran a music lending library. The company relocated to Canterbury and subsequently to Ash. It is still in business but no longer run by the Browne family.
