Slapton

Slapton is ancient, with
an atmosphere and appearance steeped in history and is mentioned in the
Doomsday Book. The village contains the village
shop and two public houses, the Tower
Inn and the Queen’s
Arms, both of which serve food and cater for children. |

‘Slapton Sands’ a 3 mile
long beach, is about 10 minutes walk away.
Between the village and the sea is the renowned nature reserve
belonging to the Whitley Trust and managed by the Slapton Ley Field
Centre. The nature reserve
centres on Slapton Ley - a freshwater lake providing fascinating walks in
addition to more specialist activities of fishing and bird watching. |

There are many different
beaches, coves and walks nearby. The
beaches at Torcross,
Blackpool Sands, Beesands and North Hallsands are all within 15
minutes drive and provide easy parking, lavatories and pubs which serve
food. Further afield (20 to 30
minutes drive) are the beaches of Lannacombe, Gara Rock and Gammon Head which
are all set in breathtaking scenery although the latter two involve some walking. |

The towns of Dartmouth,
Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Totnes are all within 20 to 30 minutes drive and
between them provide a wide selection of restaurants, (the famous Carved Angel
in Dartmouth) museums, other places of interest to visit and extensive
shopping facilities. There are numerous holiday
excursions and activity centres available within an hours drive and in
particular Woodlands
Leisure Park is only 15 minutes drive away. |
