Parish Registers
We are fortunate that registers of baptism, marriage and burial from as early as 1558. have survived. The earliest, 'A regester booke for this parishe of Hiebridge, truly coppied and written out of the olde booke' [in 1599] includes Baptisms 1558- 1812, Marriages 1558 - 1682, 1685 - 1753, Burials 1558 - 1810. This register is deposited at the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford, along with further volumes which cover:

* This register contains a note, Oct. 1887, of 'The last interment in the churchyard - except for reserved spaces - The cemetery was opened on Nov. 1st 1887'. There are just ten further entries for the period 1889-1913.
