My earliest attempts at composition were aAndy Orgee (Copyright Anglia Newspapers 2004)t the age of 8 when I started learning the piano. However, my first serious attempts at writing music didn't begin until I was 21, after abandoning an unsuccessful career in engineering in favour of studying music.

  • Two-year music foundation course at Bromsgrove College (1980-82). Studied piano with Harold Taylor, composition with Ian Spooner, history with John Woolf (RSC), clarinet with Gillian Thorne (CBSO).

  • Three-year BA (Hons) degree at Newcastle Polytechnic (1982-85). Studied clarinet with Graham Evans (Northern Sinfonia), studied composition with composer Steve Ingham at Newcastle University.

  • One-year state studentship awarded by British Academy for research at Newcastle University into graphic music notation (1985-86).

  • Two-year masters degree at Goldsmiths College, London (1992-1994). Studied composition with Professor Peter Dickinson, and music criticism with David Wright (The Musical Times).

  • Music Tutor at Reading Adult College. Music appreciation courses, and Hexagon Classical Concert Series Talks (1995-1998).

  • Composer and private music tutor (1998 to present).
