The Ferranti MK6 artificial horizon is used by a large number of glider pilots in the UK. Originally designed as a standby horizon for military aircraft it is built to a far higher standard than any of the imported modern horizons available to glider pilots.
The horizon features electrical fast erect, power fail flag together with roll graduations at 10,20,30,60 and 90 degrees. The horizon has full 360 degree movement in roll and upto 80 degrees in pitch before toppling occurs. Should toppling occur due to reaching this extreme pitch angle, the fast erect mechanism can be used to quickly re-erect the gyro.
Each instrument is supplied with a new inverter housed in a diecast box together with screw locking connectors for all power leads.
