5th Jan. '09 John Wilson A fine singer whose relaxed, mellifluous sound hides a thoughtful,sensitive approach to the meaning of a song. His unusual but highly effective guitar style never gets in the way of lyrics. Postponed: John had flu.

19th Jan. Keepers Fold - Jeff Wright & Iain Glover bring two powerful voices in harmony and a whole load of plucked instruments to some great traditional songs. Should be a wonderful night for choruses!

9th Feb. Vic Gammon brings more young talent from the Newcastle Folk Degree course. A chance to spot the rising stars and to make sure they remember The Sun Inn when they're famous! They are: Matt Price guitar & vocals who has played with Mother's Ruin, Sunniside Up, Skirl etc.; DanWalsh five-string banjo (clawhammer style) & vocals; Rosie & Lucy Coggle duo combining fiddle, folk-cello and vocals
16th Feb. Lynne Heraud & Pat Turner Welcome back to a wonderful duo. They offer a wide range of musical material, much of it traditional, but with Victorian, Edwardian, Contemporary, Rude, Silly and Self-penned Songs, all delivered with their unique blend of harmony and humour.

2nd Mar. Geoff Higginbottom Welcome back to an old favourite with a powerful voice and a repertoire combining traditional and contemporary songs with lots of chorus opportunities. His act is always spiced with humour and includes some great anecdotes.

16th Mar. Derek Gifford Lovely, relaxed singer who can hold an audience with good humour and an excellent range of songs. His setting of Keith Scowcroft's "When All Men Sing" has entered the tradition.
23rd Mar. Singaround
30th Mar. Bram Taylor Much travelled troubador with a commanding, clear voice backed by guitar and concertina. His ability to engage with his audience and get them singing is bound to go down well.
6th Apr. The Young'uns Since they acquired their name at Stockton Folk Club and first appeared there in 2005, the trio of Sean Cooney, David Eagle and Michael Hughes have gone from strength to strength on the folk club and festival circuits, even venturing into Europe. Their expanding repertoire of mainly traditional songs now includes songs by Sean celebrating local life and history. Get there early for this one!

20th April Sara Grey & Kieron Means Sara is a remarkable singer and banjo player steeped in the American tradition. Her talent as a story-teller brings the background of the songs to life. Her son Kieron shares her passion for this music but also brings a rich voice, skilful guitar accompaniments and some contemporary songs to the mix.

4th May Martin Curtis Singer, songwriter and bush poet from Cardrona in the foothills of New Zealand's Southern Alps. A keen mountaineer, his deceptively simple songs reflect the beauty and history of his adoptive country and the grandeur of the mountains.

18th May Ken Wilson - Big guy from the Wilson family with a superb voice and natural timing which bring the best out of some classic folk songs.

1st June Steve Lane is an accomplished singer, equally at home with traditional and contemporary material, unaccompanied or adding assured guitar. He's written some good songs and has proved before that he can put a good and varied night together.

15th June Brian Peters Internationally renowned performer: outstanding squeeezebox player and a terrific singer, especially at home with the big ballads. I haven't room to sing his praises in full: it's just great to have him back!

29th June The Windy Gyle Band is a wonderful five-piece group featuring Northumbrian smallpipes and fiddles. Headed by Anthony Robb, who has been a leading light in piping circles for over 35 years, the line-up spans the generations. Should be a real treat!
