5th Oct Folk Degree Students: Vic Gammon returns with more of the talented young performers from the Newcastle course. This time we welcome Isla Hughes (vocal & flute); Nick Wiseman-Ellis (melodeon, fiddle & morris); Ben Church (vocal & guitar) and Georgia Shackleton (vocal & fiddle).
6th Oct First Tuesday: tune night. Hopefully back to normal!
12th Oct Singaround
19th Oct Dick Miles is an old favourite at Stockton and on the maritime festival scene. He’s an engaging singer, performing traditional material and his own songs in a laid back style to the accompaniment of the English concertina.
26th Oct Singaround
2nd Nov The Wilson Family should need no introduction in their home area: they are recognised nationwide as one of the foremost vocal harmony groups on the folk scene. Amazingly, they haven’t appeared at The Sun as a group since they recorded their “Stocking Tops” CD here in 1997. This year they celebrate 30 years of singing together and have a new CD entitled “A Grey Lock or Two”. Sadly, sister Pat, still recovering from a bad accident, is unlikely to be with them but brothers Tom, Chris, Steve, Ken and Mike will be there at full volume!

3rd Nov

First Tuesday: tune night.
9th Nov Singaround
16th Nov Issy & David Emeney + Kate Riaz Originally from Suffolk, Issy & David are now based in Somerset. Much of their material is original but their style is distinctly traditional: fine vocal harmonies are accompanied by melodeon, guitar & bouzouki. They are joined by brilliant cellist Kate. "destined to become important figures on the traditional folk scene, superb songwriting, great singing and highly accomplished playing, a perfect combination" Jim Tigwell, Priddy Folk Festival
23rd Nov Singaround
30th Nov Jez Lowe has been acclaimed as "the best songwriter to emerge from the UK in a long time" (by no less than Richard Thompson). Much of his inspiration comes from his County Durham heritage although his writing-to-order for the new Radio Ballads and the Darwin Project greatly enhanced both collections. He's hugely entertaining as a performer too. It will be great to see him back in The Sun - I suggest you get there early for this one!
1st Dec First Tuesday: tune night
7th Dec Singaround
14th Dec The Raffleites don’t visit us often enough these days so it’s good to welcome back five females (including our own Joy) in multi-part harmony. Their wide-ranging repertoire covers everything from deeply trad. to bang up-to-date contemporary folk with a few excursions into other genres along the way. Door money is being donated to the North Tees Hospital Breast Cancer Care Unit.
21st Dec Christmas Party Our annual shindig is run is a singaround with a buffet supper where there is an opportunity to dress up and perform your “party pieces”, or just to greet old friends. Entry is free if you bring food and / or come in fancy dress.
28th Dec Singaround

Listings for other clubs in the north east can be found in "Folk Roundabout", for sale at the club, or from the editor, Trevor Lister (see contact page).
