Who's who
Some of our regulars, collectively known as "The
Otterby Band", and Digby. Sadly, Digby, a retired guidedog and a
real canine "gentleman", died in November '07.

Ron Angel |
Stockton Folk Club owes a huge
debt to Ron who was there when the club started and ran it for many
years. He has been an inspiration as a singer (notably with The
Teesside Fettlers), songwriter (e.g. The Chemical Worker's Song)
and instrument-alist. Listen Unfortunately
Ron has been unwell and his visits to the Club have become increasingly
rare. Club organisation has been passed on to John Rennie and John
Lawson. |
 |
John & Joy Rennie |
John & Joy are among our regular MCs (or
hosts). They perform as Dogwatch
and recently issued their second CD. They both sing, accompanying
themselves on concertina (John), melodeon, keyboard, recorders (Joy).
Many of their songs are poems set to music by Joy. Listen. |
 |
Helen Pitt & Steve Dawes |
Helen & Steve are well-known as a harmony
duo with a string of CDs to their name. You may also have come across
them as half of the maritime group Four 'n Aft. Helen has written
some great songs and multi-instrumentalist Steve provides the accompaniments. Listen |
 |
Mike Shorttle |
Mike is another of our regular MCs and singers
who regularly leads the "knurdle" on his melodeon. One
of the Endeavour Shanty Men (see below), he is pictured with appropriate
facial decoration! |
 |
The Endeavour Shantymen |
The ESM perform with Richard
Grainger at maritime festivals from Scarborough & Lancaster
to Bremen & Lisbon. Singarounds at the Sun often end with some
roaring shanty choruses! After a couple of retirements the line-up
is somewhat changeable but the sound is still great. |
