As their name implies, Delta Echoes play 1930s Delta blues and early string
band/jug band music, plus an eclectic mix of Western swing, early Hawaiian music,
gospel and hokum.
Georgia Tom (also known as The Reverend Thomas A. Dorsey in his subsequent more respectable incarnation) was close to the mark when he said:
“Now they had such a thing they called hokum. It had live beats to it. We didn't want to call ourselves blues singers, and we didn't want to call ourselves popular singers. I don't know what the word hokum means myself right now, I got to look in the dictionary. But it was a good word to carry, for nobody knew what it meant and they say 'Hokum Boys, we's going to see something.' And they did see something."
Delta Echoes can sometimes be heard as a sextet with added string bass, mandolin, fiddle and Cajun rub-board!
