There is a story told around the village of Seething in Suffolk, about one
of the USAAF flyers who was based there during the war.

The airman had spent a pleasant evening in the Mermaid Pub (known to the
americans by another name!) and was cycling back to base down the lanes.
His ride took him past a field belonging to a local dairy farmer. The field
contained a white cow, which stood out like a beacon in the moonlight.

Fearing the obvious danger of this "glowing" cow being spotted from the air,
our hero collected tins of camouflage paint from the base and returned to
the field to save the day.

Imagine the farmers surprise next morning when he discovered that his white
cow was now various shades of green!
