ABOUT THE ARTIST

  Well, hello there - I'm Anne Barron, self-taught artist with a passion for drawing, painting, animals, reading (mostly on holiday), music, theatre, cinema, etc., etc. 

Because I have such a wide range of interests, I am very open-minded about art and art appreciation, but my own forte is in producing portraits (mostly from photographs) of people or animals with a life-like quality.

Born in Glasgow, brought up in Leeds and now living in Sheffield with partner Mike and the dog and two cats, I have spent most of my working life as a secretary and only in the past 10 years have I been able to finally realise a life-long ambition to work in the art world.  My secretarial jobs have been varied, including a stint with the Foreign Office in London and Lima, Peru, and at a later date a time at Rugby League Headquarters in Leeds!  Again all of these experiences colour my work and I love painting sports scenes as much as designing with "Inca" colours and shapes.

Recent ventures include co-founding Wild About Art with my friend and colleague, Irene Nixon, in order to promote art and awareness of animal conservation to the people of Yorkshire, Derbyshire and further afield.  Our first three exhibitions attracted entries from as far as Bristol and Shetland, and we had a wonderful standard of work that delighted all the visitors who came.  Over the past three years we have donated over £4000 to wildlife charities raised at our exhibitions. 

In contrast to my detailed portraits, another passion is for cartoons and I have a range of dog, cat and wild animal cartoons on handmade greetings cards available on the Rascal Designs page.  These can be purchased singly or in bulk to attract a discount.  My work on the web-site will be updated regularly to show new pieces, so please add me to your "Favourites" list so that you can check me out on a regular basis.
