Art House

Terms of Membership

1. Fees

Membership is valid while subscriptions are paid up to date. The membership fee is currently £5 concessions and £10 full waged. This may change at the discretion of the board. Membership renewal is due on the anniversary of the date a member joined.

2. Services

The Art House is keen to develop and expand its services to meet the needs and expectations of members. However all activity depends on continual fund-raising and income generation.

3. Travel Expenses

If you attend a meeting or volunteer in the office or on a project on behalf of the Art House, travel expenses may be claimed if the claim is submitted within 6 weeks of the journey. Members should normally travel by second class public transport if possible. Private mileage may be claimed at the rate of 35 pence a mile. Travel expenses cannot be claimed without the agreement of the manager and therefore should be agreed in advance to avoid confusion.

4. Your views

Members can take part in the policy decisions of the organisation in different ways:

  • We consult members on specific issues via questionnaires or meetings. For example when we started planning the centre for artists we sent out a report and questionnaire to everyone and we used the AGM to discuss what artists want.
  • Regional artists meetings are held where artistic policy and projects are discussed. Artists views are passed on to the board of management and the board may ask the meetings to discuss a draft policy or new initiative.
  • Five artists sit on the board of management to represent members views. Any member has a right to stand as a representative. Each year two of the existing members will stand down or they may stand for re-election alongside other candidates. Nominations will be sought before the AGM and in 1998 voting will be facilitated by post and in person if there are more candidates than places.

5. Liability

The Art House is a company limited by guarantee registered as The Creative Art House no. 3345162 and registered charity no. 1063671. If the company went into insolvent liquidation, members would have a maximum liability of £1. A copy of the company memorandum and articles is available in the office.

6. Using our name

Please use the Art House name for a project or endorsement only with the agreement of the organisation. Only the manager and the board can enter into contracts on behalf of the Art House.

7. Information and privacy

  • The Art House will hold information about members on file and computer for professional purposes and may use it to promote members to clients. No personal information will be disclosed without the agreement of members. The Art House is registered under the 1985 Data Protection Act.
  • The Art House is creating networks of members to promote mutual support and collaboration. However contact details will only be given with the agreement of members concerned.

8. Opportunities

  • The opportunities listed in the work bulletin are not necessarily exclusive to the Art House.
  • Opportunities which are not initiated by the Art House are subject to the commissioners own selection procedures.
  • All opportunities initiated by the Art House will be distributed on an equal opportunities basis.
  • We endeavour to provide opportunities to participate in exhibitions (see exhibitions policy) or other projects organised by the Art House, though none are guaranteed.

9. Volunteers

The Art House welcomes and appreciates the input of volunteers to the organisation. We recognise that this should be a mutually beneficial relationship and are keen to develop structures to support volunteers and ensure a useful experience. Volunteers may claim travel and other expenses as agreed with the Art House. Please see the information sheet on Volunteers.
