Mark Wood explores communication problems through graphic processes, but unlike commercial graphic design the 'Constructed Spaces' work is not driven by a client's needs.

Graduating from Leeds Polytechnic's Graphic Design — Printmaking BA (hons) in 1992, Mark began trading as a freelance graphic designer with grant assistance from the Staffordshire Trading and Enterprise council and the Prince's Youth Business Trust.

By 1994 he was lecturing regularly, devising and delivering community education programmes in desktop publishing and other digital media. This was at Leek College of Further Education and School of Art. In January 1996 Mark was offered a full time lecturing post at Stoke-on-Trent College, working across HND and HNC Graphic Design, HND Media Studies and HND Photography. Whilst at Stoke Mark began to act as a consultant software trainer to the print and ceramic industry.

A two year part-time masters degree at the University of Wolverhampton was completed by Mark in September 1998, by which time he had joined the academic staff at Loughborough University School of Art & Design. His current post involves lecturing on the Graphic Communication BA (hons) course and engaging in research. Over the last two years Mark has designed three books for the University, including a monograph on the sculptor Dave Morris and the comprehensive catalogue for Relativities, the 4th British International Miniature Print Exhibition.

Throughout 2000 Mark had art works travelling internationally in a group show 'Looking for Mandy's Place'. The exhibition concluded at the end of the year at Dean Clough Mills, Halifax.
