Guide to memory requirements of Atari
software:-
512k (standard 520STE) - Enough for 80% of ST games. Runs very small amount of old applications like 1st Word Plus or Timeworks just about without any accessories.
1Mb (standard 1040STE) - Minium requirements to run most music software such as Steinberg's Pro 24 and Cubase, and applications like Calamus at basic level.
2Mb - Runs most applications comfortably with space for fonts, samples and applications. Some high end applications such as DA's Vector and Calamus SL require 2Mb minium. Atari recommends a minimum 2Mb to run an Atari SLM series laser printer. If you are running a multitasking operating system such as Magic, at least 2Mb is needed.
4Mb - Maximum most ST computers can use. Plenty of space for running all Atari applications without worries! There is a version of Linux available which requires 4Mb of ram.
