Smokey - The ultimate MP3 hifi unit
Digital audio for the home
This site shows my progress in turning a retired office computer into a hifi component for playing MP3s. The unit will be a standard brand name Pentium PC repainted black or silver with ordinary hard disk, CD drive and sound card and not require a monitor or keyboard. It is not designed to be a super duper blindingly fast system.
Original plan and specs - Progress made - Pictures - Links, credits and things
Interesting hacks used:
ditch the floppy - blue
eye - LCD fitting
- remote
control - respray - software
tweaks & setup
| Hows its shaping up so far:- | indicates progress | Notes |
| Sound quality: | ***** | Superb!! The Dell's onboard Sound Blaster Vibra 16 is just the ticket |
| Case/asthetics: | ***** | Looking very cool. Might use car wax on lid to prevent scratches |

| Remote control | ***** | Now working and mounted :o) |
| Storage | ***** | Now have 10 Gig of hard disk at disposal as well CD drive |
