Ulverscroft's history is rich and long-standing. In September 1964, the company published its first titles in large print. The books were originally 11" x 8" in size until major changes were introduced in 1969, and the format was reduced to 9" x 6". In 1981 Ulverscroft introduced pictorial covers, which gave the books a more up-to-date look and made them more attractive.

The softcover Linford series was introduced in 1984. These large print books sported soft but durable covers, and featured compelling, entertaining stories in the romance, mystery and western genres. These books were ideal for readers who preferred easy-to-handle, lightweight books printed on 95% glare-free paper.

The Linford Western Series and Dales reprint a large selection of Black Horse Westerns. Besides being available for purchase online, they can be found in many libraries across the USA, UK, and many others countries.
