Self-regulatory, industry body that administers the British codes of advertising and sales promotion .
The Codes are much more specific than the Banking and Insurance Codes,  and in our view set an excellent example for a workable set of regulations that could help both customers and bank staff to understand how financial processes work.

To make a complaint about a UK non-broadcast advertisement write to ASA giving brief details of your complaint.  Include a copy of the advertisement if possible.  Enclose your name and postal address so they can confirm your complaint was received,  and inform you of progress.

Alternatively, you can use the complaints forms on the website.

Emails
On 4 March 2003 the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) launched the 11th edition of the British Code of Advertising,  Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing - the "CAP Code".

The rules,  which govern the content of UK non-broadcast communications,  were extended to include email contacts.  The ASA administered the new code from 2 June 2003.

Explicit consent is now required for UK marketers to email a consumer unless the consumer is an existing customer of the company concerned and the product on offer is similar to one already purchased.
