"BCSB ensures that the Banking Code and the Business Banking Code deliver their promises of fair dealing and standards of good banking practice to the customers of UK banks and building societies"

Body responsible for monitoring the private and business banking codes and disciplining companies which do not comply.

NB Individual customer complaints are dealt with by the relevant ombudsman:  BCSB takes action regarding breaches of the Code.  If you feel that your financial service provider ignored the requirements of the Code, report the matter to them as well as to the Ombudsman.

However: BCSB have replied to some complaints to advise that their remit limits investigation to 'material' breaches of the Code as defined in their Compliance Policy (see website/ contacts and information/ information links/ comliance policy) - www.bankingcode.org.uk/infolinks.htm:  ie breaches which affect large numbers of customers,  continue over a long period,  or are suspected of having been knowing and deliberate.

Our reading of the Policy suggests that ANY breach is within their remit to investigate.  The level of disciplinary action will depend on how serious the breach actually was.
