In March 2000 the Cruickshank report recommended that the supply of banking services to SMEs should be referred to the Competition Commission for investigation.

The Treasury Select Committee has also decided to look into not only the market for small businesses, but also Money Transmission including the proposed regulator Paycom, and the market for personal banking services and related social exclusion issues - which would include branch closures.

Written Evidence was required by the end of July 2000.
